The Leading Edge
The Leading Edge
What is Leading Edge?
Leading Edge is a practical training programme. It is at the heart of our calling in Global Horizons, to disciple the nations and to develop those in our churches in and for the kingdom of God.
Who is it for?
Anyone in our churches who loves God and is passionate about extending His kingdom, who could be sharpened in that call by digging deeper into the areas explored in this course and being challenged to practically put what is learned into practice.
What are the aims?
To develop the character the capacity for people in our churches, to better equip them to serve in the local church and in the Kingdom of God. In todays’ world, Christians need to be at the leading edge of understanding and discerning complex issues in our culture. The Leading Edge course is designed to prepare people to better face the challenges of our current context.
The emphasis will be on facilitated discussion rather than on ‘chalk and talk’ presentation. Practical assignments will be set in the context of life in home churches. It is hoped that each delegate will be mentored throughout the course by a leader in their home church. Assignments will necessitate the delegate spending time with their mentor. A detailed aim and outcomes for each session, plus notes and a reading list, will be sent to delegates prior to each session. Please read through these before coming to each session.
Outcomes:as a result of participation in the Leading Edge course, delegates will:
· Understand principles of exegesis, sermon preparation & delivery;
· Understand how to ‘read’ poetic and wisdom literature in the Bible and from Revelation;
· Understand and be inspired by the Bible for global mission and fulfilling the Great Commission;
· Appreciate and learn how to mentor and disciple people more effectively.
Where and when?
The course will be held once a month on a Saturday, between January and November 2019, ending the Lifelink leaders’ conference from 8thto 10thNovember. Apart from the leaders’ conference at Hothorpe Hall, the course will be held at the Global Horizons’ centre in Rugby, c/o New Life Church, 28/42 Railway Terrace, CV21 3LJ. The emphasis will be on facilitated discussion rather than on ‘chalk and talk’ presentation. Practical assignments will be set in the context of life in home churches.
